The Black Diamond Momentum Climbing Shoe is a comfortable climbing shoe pitched at climbers wanting all day comfort at the crag or at the climbing wall. With its neutral flat last, the Momentum is also ideal for new climbers.

The shoe itself has a soft flexible midsole and is best suited on slabs, vertical walls and general wall climbing rather than anything too overhanging. Which if you are looking at an all-day shoe, slabs and walls are what the majority of climbers will be tackling anyway.

The uppers use Black Diamonds Engineered Knit Technology, which makes for a very breathable shoe, again enhancing the comfort, whilst maintaining support and stretch in the shoe where required. The two Velcro straps make for a shoe that is easy to take on and off but still providing enough adjustment for the required fit.

A really interesting feature is the rubber and how it is added to the shoe. The rubber for the Momentum is moulded rather than cut to the shape of the shoe, meaning that Black Diamond have been able to make the best rand possible for the shoe. The rubber itself is super sticky as you would expect and is actually reasonably thick at 4.3mm. This makes for a durable shoe, so they should last pretty well and the negative points for thicker rubber are less pronounced on non-technical shoe anyway.

A great shoe for those looking for their first pair of climbing shoes, or anyone who is looking for a comfortable shoe for all day use, whether inside or outside. Though it should be said the knit feels quite firm at first but will break in.

Good Quality Shoe, if narrow on the foot.

Super impressed with the shoe - bought for instructing groups at our climbing centre and fancied something different from the usual Tarantulas. I bought a half-size down from usual shoe sizwe which has worked out perfect. Still pretty tight TBH but in a good useable way. Rubber appears to be lasting well but only 3 weeks in - time will tell.

Fantastic climbing shoes

I have been bouldering at my local indoor climbing centre for around two months and decided to upgrade my climbing shoes. I had my eyes on the Momentum shoes in Ash for a while. Once I saw they were reduced by 40% I decided to go for it and have not been disappointed. These shoes are great for beginner/intermediate climbers. I have seen a noticeable improvement in my climbing after buying these. The rubber grips well to footholds, allowing you to toe hook and heel hook with confidence. When choosing climbing shoe sizes it can be a bit daunting. Some companies/manufacturers recommend going down a size or two from your everyday causal trainer size, in order to get a much tighter fit. With Black Diamond shoes, I found sticking with my regular trainer size worked a treat. They are tight- as they should be. You don’t want excess space between your toes and the front of the shoe or your heel and the back of the shoe, but they aren’t painfully tight and they mould to your feet over time, feeling a lot more comfortable the longer you have them. I was also incredibly impressed with Rock + Run’s speedy delivery and have brought a number of items from here and will do in the future. So if you want a shoe that is an upgrade from your rental/beginner shoes then I would highly recommend the Black Diamond Momentum shoes. They fit well, look great and are value for money.
