The Evolv Valor is a stiffer version of the ever popular Defy.

Perhaps the greatest failing of the Defy, which is otherwise a great all-round comfortable shoe, is the fact that it is incredibly soft in the sole. Of course some people like a really soft smeary shoe, but a lot of people do find the Defy that bit too soft, so this shoe ticks all the boxes for these climbers.

  • VTR rand system - thicker in front toe area
  • Very Comfortable - slipper-like feel and design
  • MX-P: 1.5mm sensitive full-length, midsole
  • Asymmetric Toe Profile - great performance even for new climbers
  • Upper: Synthetic (Synthratek VK) and semi-perforated Upper - increased breathability
  • 4.2mm TRAX® high friction rubber sole
  • Anti-microbial treated mesh (Agion)

      Tight for the sizing!

Usually wear my Boreal Alpha VC’s but these are tight and painful after a while and so size up from the Alpha 10.5 sizing (my normal shoe size is 10.5) to the Valor in size 11. When they arrived, I tried them on and they feel tighter, compare the soles to the Alpha’s and the soles of the Valors are shorter. Apart from the sizing issue I have, the build quality looks inferior. The rear quarter of the shoes look like they should be red but have a smearing of rubber over mound over the upper which looks a little clumsy. As regards the soles, they don’t look as grippy as the roughened Matt black of the Boreals, they look a bit like shiny plastic, but as I haven’t climbed in these yet I cannot give real feedback on it. Overall, a four out of five for the build quality.

Great no frills bright red shoes at less than the price of a resole! Stiff enough to stand comfortably on small edges. Fine on sports routes up to 7a. Only complaint is that in the heat, the synthetic liner got sweaty and allowed my toes to move around more than I would have liked.
