Although I only bought the Silva Explore 3 about two weeks ago, I've already used it on two night-time 'pub' hikes and twice last weekend in Snowdonia in snowy night-time descents of Moel Siabod and Carnedd Llwelynn. The Explore 3 excels in its role as a tool for night hikes. The dual focus beams provided more than enough light to enable me to walk on even fairly technical terrain confidently. I found operating the unit with gloves on to be straightforward and the fairly hefty strap (for such a small unit) is comfortable and non-slip. My only gripe is that battery life isn't as good as advertised - although in all likelihood the cold weather doesn't help. The Silva is a worthy upgrade of my Black Diamond Spot (old 250 lumen model) and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a lightweight and reliable torch for hiking and backpacking.
