The Scarpa Instinct VS-R is a superbly sensitive, performance climbing shoe, suited to indoor climbing and lightweight climbers who want increased feeling.
Basically a softer and more sensitive version of the VS model, the Scarpa Instinct VS-R differs from the original by way of its Vibram XS Grip2 sole unit, which offers higher levels of friction and sensitivity than the more solid/durable Vibram XS Edge used on the standard Instinct VS. With less focus on edging and more on friction, the Instinct VS-R is better suited to overhanging and steep routes, smearing and anything slippy.
As with the VS, the VS-R is entirely constructed from synthetic fabric allowing it to hold its size and shape well throughout its lifespan and the Velcro strap keeps the heel of the shoe firmly secured to your foot.
Overall, the same last, rands and characteristics of the legendary Instinct VS, but this version will appeal to plastic masters and those of a lighter frame, where the extra feel and sensitivity of the Vibram Grip 2 compound will be best suited.

Sizing
As with all the modern performance Scarpa's, the Instinct VS provides reliably similar sizing - i.e. if you are a 42 in the Vapour Lace, Instinct Lace/Slipper, Boostic etc. you should be a 42 in this shoe.

I've had this shoe for about two months now and I can say it has been top notch, awesome toe grip and heel hooks, pretty comfy now too. I even use it outdoors which hasn't been too bad! I got 3 sizes down (7.5 from 10.5) which was initially extremely painful but sooooo worth it. All around really good shoe and now they've molded a bit to my feet they fit perfectly, no problem getting them on/off. Wouldn't recommend for a totally new climber since they're pretty painful as I say but I'm not exactly pro, so I'd say well worth the long term investment. Definitely makes you want to get better quickly. Very happy!
The Vs-R shoes are more refined and the feel on the rock is fanastic. I have used these indoors and outdoors and the edge and the toe box on these shoes I can not fault. I will be buying another pair soon.
