The La Sportiva Mutant is a versatile trail running shoe that offers high levels of stability. Ideally suited for trail running, sky races and fell running.

Providing excellent shock absorption and comfort over plenty of different terrain styles, the La Sportiva Mutant features an aggressive outsole that's equipped with the stickiest FriXion rubber sole and lugs that gives them incredible traction over wet, soft and muddy ground as well as loose scree. The Spyraltongue Technology provides the combination of a quick fitting shoe with a traditional tongue which features an integrated gaiter that prevents stones and mud from entering the shoe. Lacing the Mutant is simple thanks to the FusionGate Technology with high frequency reinforcements, this allows regulation of inner volumes and levels of adherence of the foot within the shoe, increasing the precision and stability of the foot, even on traverses.

Good, comfortable, excellent grip on soft ground

They are best fitting quite snuggly. (almost feel too tight when you first put them on). With the toungue there is rarely any ingress of stones etc. Breathe well. Reasonable padding (if you run much on a road you feel the studs, but that isn't why you have these) Really good traction on mud etc This is a second (well, third as I have a slightly larger pair i wear with sealskin socks in the winter / snow).

La Sportiva Mutants

Bought these on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. They feel robust and tough and up to the rigours of long days in the hills. I completed a couple of 15 milers to wear them in and then wore them for the first 46 miles of the Spine Challenger (before changing Akashas). They withstood everything the southern Pennines threw at them and I had no foot issues at all. There was a problem with the first delivery but Rock & Run were straight on to it and a replacement pair were with me two layers later with the packaging and instructions to return the original pair. I normally wear Inov8 size 9 but went up to 9.5 in the Mutants as I was told they come up a little small. They felt a little “snug” on my wide hobbit feet but soon wore in to feel solid and grippy in all but the worst mud. I’d definitely recommend them - go up at least half a size. And I’d definitely recommend Rock & Run - this was the first time I’ve had to deal with their customer service in several orders from them over the years and they were excellent.

La Sportiva Mutant

Great product particularly when there’s a price reduction. The Mutant is a snug/precise fit and you may need to size up if you have broad feet. It deals well with a mixture of terrains and wears well. Possibly the best multi-purpose off road running shoe I’ve come across.
