I'm a pole newbie, so take this review as such. My parents have used poles for years - now, in their mid 70s they happily go hiking in mountains in Austria. Enough said. In order to save my knees that now seem to get twinges on steep downward slopes, I decided to invest in a pair. I did a load of research as to whether folding (z poles) or telescopic poles were the best. I decided that I wanted the poles to pack up small, be lightweight, yet still wanted the adjustable height. My first trip was walking the ****** way. The poles definitely helped balance the weight of a pack. I felt ****** using them on the road stretches, but they packed up easily enough. When my friend's blisters got so bad he thought about stopping, the poles saved his walk. Good job they were adjustable... and he's a big man, so they got to be pretty strong. We took one each to do the mountain section and the descent in the rain would have been really tough going without them. I found the cork comfortable to hold, although my folks showed me how you push off using your straps as opposed to clutching the handle and that helped too. Only criticism is that you need tools to change the tips. I'd like an easier method to switch to the rubber tips when needed.
There is a design weakness with this product. Where the upper tube of the folding section enters the telescopic section there is a hole in the tube. One of the pair I bought broke at this point the first time I used it. I now have a dilemma, do I risk buying another to match the remaining pole
Light weight, simple to use and fit in my rucksack when not In use. Exactly what I wanted
These are good poles but there are not as good as Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork which are the same price. There was a small bit of play in the pole when you wiggled the pole and a small amount of elasticity when walking on soggy/sticky ground when your pulling the pole out. Otherwise it is a very good walking pole. Unless the collapsible length is a must, then I would say your money would be better spent on the Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork, which from use is a fantastic pole
Very good quality poles as you would expect from this brand Build quality is excellent and the compact size when folded is worth paying the little extra for I expect these to last for a fir number of years
