Camp Turbo Chest

1   |

The Camp Turbo Chest is a revolutionary chest ascender that features two proprietary rollers for a smooth interface with the rope.

These innovative rollers reduce dangerous wear where the rope can rub on the body on traditional ascending devices, and also help with climbing efficiency by making the upward glide much smoother. They also prevent the rope from escaping the device during tight pendulums and traverses and the perfectly profiled closure keeps the rope in line with the body of the device. Finished with a special anti-wear treatment, the toothed cam features drain holes to help prevent the build up of mud, grit and ice.

There are also drain holes on the main body along the rope path to allow grit and moisture to escape during use for better contact with the rope. Wear caused from shifting between the device and the connector is reduced by thicker body plates and a shaped connection point, and these also keep the device more in-line with the body during use.

The opening mechanism is simple and secure with the ability to lock the device open for easier attachment and the removable pull cord makes it easier to operate while wearing gloves. The proprietary rollers allow the Turbochest to be rigged as a locking pulley for light hauling with a max load of 50 kg.

NB: This configuration is not intended for hauling or securing of bodies.

  • Proprietary rollers increase climbing efficiency and decrease wear and tear on the device and ropes
  • Super smooth action and increased safety on traversing manoeuvres
  • Thicker body plates and a shaped connection point reduce shifting between the device and the connector
  • Can be rigged as a locking pulley for light hauling (max load 50 kg, 110 lbs)

Very good

Seems very well made, relatively smooth movement, handles mud and grit well (used for caving). The cam size and the rollers make it slightly harder to detach from the rope than other chest ascenders. The small size took a little getting used to, but doesn't seem to come with any real disadvantages. Slightly wider front-to-back than alternatives so perhaps a little more obstructive, but not noticeably so. Primarily suited to hybrid rope-walker configurations including a foot jammer due to the rollers, but also works well for standard frogging. Recommended, particularly in preference to the new Croll.
