The first thing you notice about the Edelrid Atmosphere harness when you pick it up is just how light it is. Tipping the scales at a mere 308g the Atmosphere is ideally suited to sport climbing, when every gram counts on the red-point.
Unlike some other harnesses of this weight the atmosphere is also pretty supportive, making it both comfortable, and also for the purposes of trad climbing capable of holding a decent sized rack without deforming. This stiffness comes from the use of a high density 3 layer foam which has been heavily perforated for breathability. The three strands of webbing which run around the waist loops and leg loops are also cleverly contoured so the harness moulds to the shape of the body and does not ‘cut in’ at any point.
As you would now expect the atmosphere has 2 slots in the waist belt to accept ice screw clippers. We wouldn’t recommend the Atmosphere for Scottish winter use, but it would be perfect for euro style ice/ mixed routes or even alpinism.
Overall the Atmosphere is an excellent harness, and although it is squarely aimed at sport and indoor climbing, it will also cope admirably with trad and winter use. Considering the technology that has gone into it, it also happens to offer outstanding value for money. Features
