Five Ten Guide Tennie (Sun)

Shoe Conversion Size Chart

The Five Ten Guide Tennie is a legendary approach shoe which has long been the cragging footwear of choice for climbers the world over. This version has had a major re-design, with some excellent changes which should see it hold on to its throne as the king of approach shoes for a while longer yet.

The most obvious change is to the sole, which is now a specially moulded affair with a much deeper and more widely spaced tread than the old versions. This should be a significant improvement for typical British use, which tends to involve wet grass and mud on crag approaches, rather than arid terrain of California for which the previous version was designed. Climbing performance has not been hampered though; a 'smedging zone' around the toe of the shoe maximises grip on small footholds.

The rubber rand has now been extended further around either side of the shoe to increase durability at what is a high wear area. A moulded plastic heel counter completes the changes and helps to stabilise the foot, particularly whilst carrying a pack.

This version of the Guide Tennie seems to be about half a size bigger than the previous versions. For a standard 'trainer' type fit we would recommend wearing them at half a size down from your usual shoe size. For a rock boot type fit you will probably want to down-size by 1 whole UK size (or possibly 1.5 sizes if you mainly want to climb in them).

Guide tennie

Over the moon with this pair of approach shoes, size is perfeck, I'm an 8 in trainers and an 8.5 in boots so I took a chance and got a pair of 8s and they were perfeck fit. The colour is also a more beige/brown rather than yellow which suited me fine. Comfort is great. Style is also next level. Practicality I havent done anything arduous in terms of climbing etc however they feel very durable and apt for arduous situations. First pair of approach shoes I've bought and I'm not disappointed.

Great shoe at a great price

Great quality shoe. Bought these half a size under my normal size as recommended and they fit perfectly. A good sturdy shoe that are perfect for walking to the crag and belaying. The sole is super sticky so I have no doubt you could climb or scramble in them. They do make your feet warm on hot days ( climbing in Spain at the mo) but I don't find that a problem as i'm sure that will be an advantage when we get back to the UK. Overall, I would highly recommend these shoes. Great service as always from Rock+Run.
