If longevity is the sign of a great design then the Five Ten Niad VCS may possibly be the greatest rock climbing shoe of all time. Now with a better fitting heel cup that reduces dead space, whilst still pushing the foot forward, and Five Tens most durable rubber; Stealth® C4™ rubber.
Initially quite stiff, in its first phase of life the VCS is a great edging shoe that is fantastic for limestone sport climbing and bouldering. With use the shoe softens up and takes on a different guise - the perfect grit shoe - soft, sensitive, and very very sticky; perfect for those blank slab test-pieces.

United KingdomNot used them yet but got a full size larger than street shoe. They are still on the narrow side and until they wear in I doubt my foot will spread for that ultimate feel. The Crawes accommodate spreading feet better ! my big toe and second toe are about the same length so the Niad’s more rounded toe box suits, but just that bit narrow.I’ve had a nightmare recently getting boots to fit and have fallen into the old fashioned trap of getting them too tight, hoping for stretching to make them bearable on a hot afternoon. In this world of eco-friendly they don’t stretch much! Just love that 5.10 rubber though !
