I bought one of these after seeing a friend use one with his Grivel Aero Tech axe on the Aonach Eagach in March 2018. It makes changing hands very easy when the axe is used for plunging. No fiddly hand loops to transfer, just pass the axe from one hand to the other with the slider/hand rest at the top of the axe. When using the pick move the slider/hand rest to the bottom of the shaft. The lanyard is always attached to the harness and prevents loss of the axe. If you have a Grivel axe make sure there is a small screw in place at the base of the shaft to prevent the slider from 'sliding off'. My Grivel Aero Tech axe came without the screw, which I hadn't noticed, and I had to search online for a M3 cupboard screw. The slider is a useful bit of kit which speeds up switching hands and techniques.
I have used a grivel slider for its intended purpose once, on my Munro walking axe, where it performed well. It was able to slide down to the bolts and made a secure rest for my hand. This, however, is not the reason I bought two more sliders. When it co
