The Grivel Goulottes Pick sports a beefy design for alpine climbing where a broken pick could spell disaster. The thick cross-section of the tip can be tough to drive into hard black ice, especially if the head of the tool is very light. However, when mixed climbing and dry-tooling durability are more important than penetration (alpinism in a maritime climate like Scotland or Chamonix), the Goulottes Pick comes into its own. The pick angle matches the curve of the Light Wing, Alp Wing or older Grivel tools such as the original Super Courmayeur, 90 Degree, Rambo (II) and Geronimo.

Although it is possible to do so, it is not recommended to fit picks designed for yellow-shafted axes to black-shafted axes, and vica versa.
