The Petzl Reverso 4 is an ultra-light (59g) multi-purpose, versatile climbing belay and abseil device.

Regulating the amount of braking friction on the rope according to its diameter and condition, the Reverso 4 is now easier to handle and very intuitive to use. Windows have now been created in the sides by removing some aluminium, making the device 25% lighter than it's predecessor the Reverso 3. The ARC Technology is basically the V-shaped friction channels with the asymmetrical lateral grooves, and this adapts the friction to the type of rope allowing for better control with all types of ropes.

The guide mode can be used for belaying one or two seconds and it also enables quick transition when swopping leads from Reverso mode to belaying the leader.

Check out the Petzl video below on how to belay correctly using the Reverso:

Features

  • Ultra-light design with minimalist construction, hot-forged aluminium, weighing only 59g.
  • A single device for all rope types with effective braking on half and twin ropes (7.5 mm or greater diameter), effective braking on single ropes (8.9 mm or greater diameter). You can belay the leader, one or two seconds and the device can be used for abseiling, independent and simultaneous belaying of two seconds in Reverso mode. Its great for swapping leads (team of 2) and offers a quick transition from Reverso mode to belaying the leader.
  • The V-shaped friction channels give greater braking power on thin ropes, adapt the braking power on larger diameter ropes, and increase the braking pressure on the ropes in Reverso mode.
  • The asymmetric side grooves increase the braking power for leader or top-rope falls, or while abseiling, and improve rope glide through device when taking up slack.
  • Hole for releasing the device under load allows a loaded device in Reverso mode to be easily and gradually released with only a carabiner.
  • The Reverso is rope friendly, facilitates rope manoeuvres and abseiling. It will not twist the ropes regardless of the mode used, and it separates the two strands of rope when belaying and abseiling on two ropes.
  • Intuitive use - The Reverso mode aluminium attachment hole is easy to identify, the keeper cable keeps the device from moving up the rope when belaying and reduces risk of losing the device, and there are usage diagrams (standard belay and Reverso modes) engraved on the device.
