Petzl Tibloc

1   |

The Petzl Tibloc is one of the most super light and compact ascenders on the market. It's also extremely versatile as it can be used as a lightweight emergency ascender, it can be used with the ULTRALEGERE pulley for a lightweight emergency hauling kit, and as a rope capture device (replacing a friction knot such as a prusik) in self rescue situations.

The teeth may look quite aggressive, and while they may pick at the sheath, the core will still be protected and not squashed unlike mechanical ascenders.

The Tibloc is probably not going to be an automatic replacement for your prussik loops as it's not really designed for abseil backups, but it is much more efficient for ascending, so should be worth some consideration even if only to carry one for emergencies.

Features

  • Chrome-plated steel cam with angled teeth and self-cleaning slot securely grips the rope, even in muddy or icy conditions.
  • Can be used as a progress capture device in a hauling system.
  • Small hole at top of TIBLOC allows a keeper cord to be attached.
  • Automatic system presses the carabiner against the rope to start the braking action on the rope in any position
  • Ultra-light (35 g) and very compact: the ascender can be carried permanently on the harness or in a pack
  • Marking on the ascender is on side that is visible when installed

Good little bit of kit

Used this on a crevasse rescue course - one of those items you buy hoping to never need to actually use in an emergency - however on the course it worked brilliantly so happy to carry in my glacier gear and hopefully it wont see any use!
