The Scarpa Vapour Lace is a stiff shoe designed for distance. It is aimed at technical climbers who love small footholds on vertical to steep terrain.
The Vapour Lace sees a number of updates over its sibling, the Vapour V. The first of these is the introduction of a dual density "Toe-cap", which simply put consists of a one-piece outsole which incorporates the base sole and toe rand come toe-hooking patch into one unit. This seamless partnership of stretchy rubber components allow the toes to mould into the yellow rubber of the shoe's upper when worn tightly, while the lower black portion is much more solid, helping to retain lateral rigidity.
The front two thirds of the shoe is exactly the same fit as the Vapour V, however the heel has seen a re-design, incorporating the PAF heel system. This is a tension mechanism placed behind the heel to reduce pressure on the Achilles tendon. The holes on the base of the sole indicate the tension applied to a given model, varying between 1 hole for light tension and 3 holes for high tension - the Vapour Lace offers high tension.
This Vapour Lace also features a thermo plastic midsole, making it stiffer and more supportive than the Velcro model - this really helps fight fatigue when on the rock for prolonged periods. Finally, the Vapour Lace has seen a removal of all leather components, replacing them with a synthetic micro fibre. This makes for an entirely Vegan friendly climbing shoe.
The Scarpa Vapour Lace is a comfortable performance shoe aimed at sport, trad and indoor climbers looking for a precise, supportive shoe with good longevity in the field.
As with all the modern performance Scarpa's, the Vapour provides reliably similar sizing - i.e. if you are a 42 in the Vapour V, Instinct Lace/Slipper, Boostic etc. you should be a 42 in the Vapour Lace.
