Trango Squid

3   |

The Trango Squid is an “off the deck” bolt clipping device, similar, but different to the ever-popular Beta Clip Stick.

As well as being able to clip climbing bolts from the ground the Squid is designed to also allow un-clipping of bolts, a feature not available to the Beta version. "Fingers" at the end of the pivot-arm grab the gate and open it with a pull, letting you take the carabiner out of the bolt. If the draw is already hanging, a clever set of arms will hold your climbing rope so you can clip it into the draw. An excellent climbing clip device!

The Squid will work with any standard paint/window cleaning pole which as a threaded tip - 'Ettore Extension Poles' work well. Trango recommend a 2m to 3m two-piece pole. The pole needs to be stiff; the Squid will not work with something like a tent pole.

We feel the extra features; of being able to unclip bolts and its modular facet, make this a worthwhile product. However, if you are looking for a no-nonsense clipstick, the Beta versions still seem less fiddly and more durable... plus you get the pole thrown in.

Haven't used the Squid yet

Haven't used the Squid yet as can't find an extension pole that is long enough when fully extended and short enough to not get caught on trees etc during walk-ins. Have looked for painters poles and window washers poles, but all seem to only compact to +1

Ideal for trips abroad

Bought one of these in the States a year or two back, out of necessity, and have been amazed by its functionality and durability. Obviously, being made of plastic, you have to treat it with some respect, but overall a great, well designed gadget which is
