Who are they?
Founded in 1983, Fixe are a company moulded by their surrounding mountain and climbing hot spots of Montserrat, Terradets and Siurana. Based out of Sant Quirze de Besora (Catalonia), Fixe originally specialised in metal hardware and fast became one of the leading brands in Spain. Nowadays, nearly 40 years after their inception, Fixe have been reinvigorated by the introduction of products like Alien Cams (2011) and Fixe ropes (2012 w/Roca) to their line-up. Known for a while as ‘Tech Rock’, Fixe decided to return to their former name in a 2018 rebranding. This rejuvenated the company and Fixe, with their eclectic mix of kit, have hit the ground running, becoming one of the most dedicated gear producers on the market.
What are Fixe known for?
First crafting metal hardware in the 80’s, Fixe’s heritage still resonates today through their extensive offerings of bolting equipment. Bolting, in the UK at least, is a relatively niche pursuit and in an aim to expand, Fixe acquired or partnered with numerous other climbing gear manufacturers. After having purchased CCD (Colorado Custom Hardware) in 2011, Fixe swiftly rebranded CCD’s camming hardware as Alien Cams. Alien Cams have since become one of the most recognisable and renowned camming devices on the market.
Where are Fixe products made?
Fixe Climbing produces its entire range of ropes and Alien Cams at its headquarters in Sant Quirze de Besora. Fixe is the official European distributor of the Perfect Descent auto belay and is the distributor for Climbskin Spain in Germany, Austria and Italy.
Environmental action
Fixe’s product range has a specific focus on durability and quality, embodying the ‘buy nice or buy twice’ ethic. Fixe started making ropes in 2012 when Roca ropes (established 1891) became a part of the Fixe group; Roca’s experience helped to develop technologies such as ‘Endurance’ and ‘SPD Spiderware’ which both increase resistance to abrasion and increases the capacity of falls by 30%.
