Want to keep things ultra-light? Just skip the carbon filter when the water source is already pristine. When the water quality comes from fresh mountain streams, it's advisable to remove the carbon filter when it's not needed as a second-stage filter. This can help extend the lifespan of the filter before it needs to be replaced. Additionally, if you find the taste of chlorine in your tap water unpleasant, the carbon pad will effectively eliminate that taste for you.
