Schweiz Plaisir West Volume 2 is a comprehensive guidebook to rock and sport climbing in the Western Swiss Alps and the French Alps, covering an expansive area from Annecy in France to Brig in Switzerland. The guide is divided into three main sections: the Haute-Savoie region in France, the Bas Valais to Vaud regions in Switzerland, and the Oberwallis region. In Haute-Savoie, climbers will find venues ranging from the sunny crags around Lake Annecy, such as the Grandes Suites and Col de la Colombière, to the high alpine walls of the Aiguilles Rouges near Chamonix. The Bas Valais and Vaud sections feature climbs around Montreux, Martigny, and Sion, offering everything from single-pitch sport routes in the valleys to adventurous multi-pitch routes in the mountains. The Oberwallis region focuses on the crags around Brig, including Wiwanni, the Fiescher Valley, and the Turtmann Valley.
In total, the guidebook details 64 crags, with routes graded up to F6c, encompassing both short sport climbs and long alpine-style multi-pitch routes extending hundreds of metres. Each area includes detailed topos, overview and location maps, and practical information such as altitude, sun exposure, route style, and necessary equipment—from traditional protection to the number of quickdraws recommended. GPS coordinates for parking areas are also provided.
Published in May 2025, this new edition adds 12 new climbing areas and features trilingual text (German, French, and English) throughout. Each copy includes a unique code that allows users to download the full guidebook via a free companion app for iOS and Android, making it an indispensable resource for climbers exploring the Western Alps.
