Edelrid Giga Jul

The Edelrid Giga Jul is a super versatile belay device that offers both a  standard tuber device and an assisted braking device in one.

With an intelligent hybrid design, the Edelrid Giga Jul can either be used in guide mode or assisted guide mode, which offers a brake boost for catching falls. The assisted braking function can be activated or disabled by swivelling the device round, which is great when you are climbing mixed pitches. The Giga Jul offers the best of both worlds and is ideal for situation-dependent belaying and abseiling, especially in alpine terrain.

What The Rock+Run Team Say

"I recently purchased one and have now used it multiple times. To me, it really does tick all the boxes; easy to use, just like an ATC, so newbies and experienced climbers alike can use it, as well as being light enough for trad routes and being able to use double ropes for multi-pitch and abseils. Fantastic." - James.

    Decent bit of hardware

I have started using this belay with the brand new climbing rope and I find it not instantly locking as older model that my climbing partner uses. I did even changed three different belay carabiniers and best results I've got with smaller diameter binier. After the rope got more use it becomes more sensitive to autolock. I'm not saying that it doesn't lock, but it really different than the older model which do grab the rope just instantly. Sure this also means it rests the fall more smoothly.
