The Black Diamond ATC Pilot is a cleverly designed, uncomplicated, brake-assisted climbing belay device.
Giving you that extra bit of belaying security, this light-weight device is simplistic in that it has no moving parts, and its durable steel braking surface makes for a smooth, secure, controlled and gradual lower off.
The Pilot threads in a similar way to other manual devices and works best with ropes that are from 8.7-10.5mm in diameter. The perfectly placed thumb loop allows for easy and fast rope payout on lead, making it great for projecting at the wall as its less tiring for the belayer and more secure for the climber.
This belay device is the ideal choice for anybody looking for a simple, but secure and cost effective, brake-assisted belay device to be used for single-pitch climbing.

Have been using this when introducing belaying to new climbers and kids, the ability of the assisted breaking is a great safety device.
Very easy to use, I find it easier to pay out slack than a Grigri band it's lighter and cheaper. The most ATC similar device to use in my view. I'm not sure I prefer it to my Click-Up though.
