We started making the Rock + Run Hipsac in the workshop behind the Ambleside shop back in 1984. This was the advertising slogan:
“Carry anything from a banana to a brick without bounce.”
Running bum bags were very basic then, most bounced badly and were quite heavy having their routes in the ski industry. Our aim was to design something that was lighter, just big enough for the essential long fell race requirements and crucially, didn’t bounce.
The bounce issue was solved with side compression straps and, we were the first company to use this design feature on a running bum bag. Lowe Alpine followed a couple of years later.
We sold 1000s in the early days and they were the fell running bumbag of choice for several years. Today running pack designs has evolved into a complex range of products some of which are arguably, over designed.
Our motivation in relaunching the Hipsac was to bring some simplicity and freedom back to fell running (although this versatile little product works well for road running and cycling too). Ask yourself how much stuff do you really need to carry and if you can’t fit it into a 4 litre Rock + Run Hipsac, am I carrying too much?
The best product designs are light, simple and functional. We are confident that the Hipsac continues to meet those criteria.
"I’ve used it on countless wet and grim mountain bike rides, taking no care of it and jamming a lot more stuff in than it's designed for, and it's still going strong. The simplicity is its greatest feature which in turn helps with its stability and comfort. Just your phone and keys for a short run, no problem. Waterproof, pump, tools, a tube, some lunch and your phone and keys for a days mountain biking? It can do it." - Matt

I take this bag running and canicrossing,,, once straps are tight then there's no bouncing. Can fit lots in the bag. Bonus as it's in purple!
When I saw this bumbag on sale today I thought I would just say that it looks exactly the same as the one I bought back in the late 80's - part from the new funky colours. Mine has been used and abused for over 30 years for climbing. biking and as a toilet bag. Well designed and very well made.
Buy with confidence.

Seems well made, easy and simple to adjust and will take a waterproof jacket, some gels, a phone and a half litre of water (in a soft bottle). Very little movement when running.

Perfect for fell races with mandatory kit, or longer runs from home or great for generally using through winter if you want to take a waterproof, hat, gloves etc. Simple design, but when you cinch the side straps there's zero bounce
