  • Toothed cam with self-cleaning slot optimises performance under any conditions (e.g. frozen or dirty ropes)

Petzl Basic Ascendeur

I bought this not primarily for climbing, but climbing the mast of my boat - where weight isn't important, but security and cost are! I've been pleasantly surprised - the unit is lighter than I expected, so I probably will use it crossing glaciers in the Alps, it's beautifully engineered and really, unless you're intending to jug your way up El Cap, it seems a perfectly good, decently priced ascendeur that will work in any number of environments.
