Rock+Run AT2 Wood Rings Review, by Morgan Cvetkovic-Jones.
Lightweight, compact and extremely versatile – the Rock + Run AT2 rings are the ultimate portable performance training tools, proving to be the perfect device for training on the go and warming up at the crag. Ticking every finger training fundamental at a competition killing price, the AT2 rings have to be the best portable climbing option on the market – here’s why.
At home or on the go
From mobile phones to handbag sized dogs, many of the products and objects we use on a daily basis have been trimmed, transformed and adapted so they can be transported anywhere to do almost anything. Climbing accessories are no different with portability being an area in which the AT2 rings really shine, featuring a lightweight and super streamlined profile that’s begging you to slip them into a rucksack, the AT2’s won’t be left behind. At a little over 240 grams per ring (the pair weigh the same as a can of beans!), they fit seamlessly into a crag pack and won’t force you to pay for extra hold luggage if you want to train whilst travelling.
Functionality and design
Compact and light as your crag snack, the AT2’s are the perfect companion for a warm up at the wall or a work out on your weekend break. With a simple, time-tested design, the AT2’s are familiar tools of the finger training trade with standard 20mm edges across a variety of hold widths (3 finger, 4 finger and a mono slot). For me, the AT2 rings have been a perfect warm up device when at the crag with the top edge of the rings being a great pull up jug whilst the finger slots are the ideal size for a finger friendly warm up, activating muscles and tendons without the risk of injury.
The AT2 rings are also a great training tool with the variety of holds and free hanging design making them a superbly effective device to train a wide range of climbing muscle groups. The ability to isolate each ring and use them separately makes them the ideal device to train lock offs with French lock offs being my go-to work out on the AT2.
The AT2’s compact, feather-like design belies their robust, high-quality construction. The wood is tough, durable and sustainably sourced from a fast-growing boxwood species, grown in either Asia or North America and it feels fantastic to the touch - great for your skin and so much better for the planet than their plastic competitors.
Round up
The best all-round portable training tool on the market, the Rock + Run AT2 rings have become one of my kit bag essentials, forming a vital part of every climbing trip and my home and away training sessions. With an extremely efficient, effective, no-nonsense design, the AT2 rings are the ultimate portable fingerboard at a brilliant price.
