La Sportiva Jackal II

Colour:Electric/Lime
Electric/Lime
Black/Yellow
Size:EU 41

The La Sportiva Jackal II has superior cushioning and a high-energy return, a perfect combination for long-distance trail running, Ultra races training or those looking for extra cushioning over shorter distances.

The innovative Infinitoo® technology ensures exceptional cushioning by absorbing the negative impact with the ground and returning this energy to you and propelling you forward to smash your PB.

The lacing system sees the loops incorporated directly into the side panels of the uppers - which allows the volume of the shoe to adjust throughout your run as your foot swells. A soft elastic tongue moves with the foot, and internal bellows protect the foot from the ingress of stones and mud. The uppers have been improved with new construction so that the heel and tongue envelop the foot much more securely whilst at the same time, significantly reducing the weight and increasing breathability for a much more comfortable run. La Sportiva has also incorporated new, Eco-Friendly recycled content into the upper fabric to reduce its carbon footprint and be kinder to our environment.

The outsole with a dual-density rock guard provides the ultimate underfoot security. The sole features La Sportiva's FriXion Red rubber which is the perfect combination of grip, durability and shock absorption, and the lateral Impact Brake System lugs to stabilise the foot over any terrain.

My 'go to' shoe for running on the Lakeland fells

This is my third pair of Jackal 2's, after having two pairs of Jackal 1's. The heel is much more comfortable in the 2's - otherwise they feel similar - perhaps a little harder under foot at first (sound a bit 'slappy') but then settle in. I find these shoes very comfortable for training runs in the Lakeland fells - where I run a mixture of trails, single tracks and off tracks, in all seasons.
The midsoles are responsive and the soles have lot's of grip, especially on rock (even good on wet rock). Despite the lugs being only a moderate depth, they also provide surprisingly good grip on soft surfaces (wet grass, bogs, steep gravel). The shoes provide good 'feel' for what is underfoot but are also protective (they have a thin rock plate I believe).
They last well, I tend to phase them out after about 500 miles but I suspect they may be OK for longer as visible wear is limited. I hope they keep making these as they are my go to shoe for running on the fells.
