At the core of the Blackbird is a groundbreaking Pebax® carbon-fibre midsole, the result of years of refinement. Ultra-stiff and incredibly responsive, it transfers power directly into your toes, reducing fatigue and helping you stay stronger on long routes and hard sequences. When every move counts, this is a shoe that works with you, not against you.

On technical routes, the rigid platform supports your body weight so your feet and forearms don’t burn out as quickly. On boulders, it becomes a scalpel for micro-edges and improbable footholds, allowing you to trust placements that would feel impossible in softer shoes. This is not a gym shoe. Not a comp slipper. This is a purpose-built tool for outdoor climbing.

The midsole strikes a fine balance between strength and performance. By using Pebax® carbon fibre instead of pure carbon, Scarpa has achieved exceptional stiffness without the brittleness, meaning consistent performance under load. Paired with Vibram XS Grip2 rubber, the Blackbird maintains friction where the stiff platform can’t conform, giving you confidence across varied rock features.

Despite its power, comfort hasn’t been sacrificed. The multi-panel upper combines stretch microfibre and Alcantara® for a surprisingly forgiving fit straight out of the box. Scarpa Ilga rubber SF tension system locks your foot securely in place, focusing power into the toe while eliminating unwanted movement. An under-arch slingshot closure ensures a precise, dialled-in fit through the midfoot.

Up front, the M50 rubber toe patch delivers outstanding coverage for toe hooks, foot cams, and aggressive movement, working alongside the adaptive upper to maintain comfort even when you’re pushing hard.

With 33 individual components and a limited production run, the Blackbird represents Scarpa's uncompromising approach to performance. Built without shortcuts. Designed for one thing - Rock climbing.

Sizing: Although the Blackbird fits broadly in line with most Scarpa models, we recommend sizing up by half a size compared to your usual Scarpa rock shoe. Thanks to its stiff construction, there’s less need to downsize for performance. For example, if you typically wear an EU 42 in Instincts, opting for an EU 42.5 in the Blackbird should give you the best fit.
