The Tenaya Masai is an exquisitely precise and supportive rock climbing shoe, making it an ideal weapon of choice for both edgy face climbs and precarious pebble dances alike. A relatively narrow toe box is partnered by a low volume fit from heel to toe. The heel itself is well fitting and gives competent performance, however this shoe stands apart thanks to the precision toe box.
The upper is entirely synthetic, utilising a similar microfibre to that used by Evolv and Five Ten, whilst the lining is an antibacterial cotton. This means the shoe will hold its shape reasonably well with time and use, although the weight of material is marginally lighter than that used in some contemporary models, so you can expect a little more by way of stretch/give.
The Tenaya Masai has long been touted as a direct competitor to the various Five Ten lace up Anasazis. With the demise of the popular White and Verde, combined with the polarising alterations made to the latest version of the Anasazi Pink, the Tenaya Masai is once again a serious consideration for those disillusioned with recent Five Ten's developments.
Also comes with spare laces!

I've had enough of the pain and agony from breaking in new shoes and I was looking for a pair of shoes that are comfy straight out of the box. These seem to fit the bill. My street shoe size ranges between 41 and 42. I tried a 41 but these were way too tight. Swapped these for a 42, and they are snug without bending my toes painfully out of shape. Not tried them on the wall yet.
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your review! I find Tenaya shoes are surprisingly comfy across there range even in their more performacne oriented models. They're also quite malleable and soft shoes so great for smearing. I hope they are trusty sending companions for you!
All the best,
Callum

My feet are very wide at the front with narrow ankles, and the Tenaya Masai fit better than any other climbing shoes I've tried. They seem more comfortable every time I put them on. They're a size smaller than the shoes I was wearing before, but I haven't had to put them in warm water or anything - they just seem to mould to my feet. The lacing allows the fit to be adjusted even more specifically. Glad I bought these.
These are fantastic shoes, especially for those with quite narrow feet. They tend towards the flexible and are especially great for grit smearing (Vibram Grip rubber), but I find they perform pretty well at limestone edging too. I am on my second pair, and my most recent purchase of them was for my wife - she likes them too.
