Scrambling is a highly popular activity which covers the area where walking turns into climbing. It combines the freedom enjoyed by the hillwalker with the more immediate excitement of the rock climber, but without the cumbersome clutter of ropes, carabiners and all the other climbing gear and expertise needed for a rock climbing route.
Scrambling has evolved over the years and now has an established grading system to allow you to gauge the level of difficulty of the scramble. There are 4 grades with one being the easiest and 4 the hardest, and sometimes there are also scrambles that are given a climbing grade if they are a more serious undertaking.
We have scrambling guidebooks covering superb scrambling areas in the UK, including the Lake District, North Wales and the Scottish Highlands.
