La Sportiva Genius - 2023

Size: EU 35

The La Sportiva Genius is a technical and performance, lace up climbing shoe from the 'no-edge' range, aimed at top-end sport climbing.

Providing a precise and close, yet surprisingly comfortable fit when fitted correctly, the La Sportiva Genius lace-ups might provide a great 'no edge' alternative for those with lower volume feet to the Futura. The suede leather/microfibre combination upper is well bolstered with rubber just where you'd want it, meaning the shoe will hold its shape even after extensive use, as well as giving enhanced performance on heel and toe-hooks.

Allowing you to get closer to the rock, the 'no edge' technology gives the Genius three distinct improvements: increased sensitivity, homogenous pressure and adaptability. They can basically take on anything you throw their way. The Laspoflex midsole combined to the P3 Patent System means the shoe retains its push-pull toe power throughout its lifespan, and provides solid support even if the shoe is not worn excessively tightly. This construction feature, along with the speed-lacing system, makes the shoe adaptable to a broad spectrum of foot shapes.

No-Edge Technology in Detail

  • Sensitivity is improved thanks to the reduced layer of rubber - the No-Edge construction system reduces the distance between the foot and the rock surface, enhancing foot sensitivity on holds.
  • Specifically developed to provide "homogenous pressure", whereby the absence of any edges allows the foot to exert an all-round equal push on the inner side of the shoe.
  • The No-Edge design maximises the surface area in contact with the foot under all conditions.

    Brilliant

I bought these and the futura womens to test which would fit best and kept the Genius. Really easy and quick return on the others. And these shoes are brilliant, not as thin as the Mantra's I tried on in work so feel like a better introduction to a no edge shoe while getting my toes used to them. But these shoes are amazing out the box. Already have that sensitive feel that I normally have to wear a shoe into having. Really looking forward to trying these on some of my projects

    La Sportiva genius

I have medium wide foot, Greek type. My toe fit absolutely brilliant. But heel is to big for me, I can’t fit it so good.
Minuses of this shoes, that heel is not working. Rubber is terrible, slip off from everything. So it’s best variant for rocks only, or Boulders without heel hooks.

    Sensivity is amazing!

    My favourite shoes

This is my second pair of these shoes - they are now my go to shoes for most of my climbing. Once you get use to no edge you realise just how much of an advantage it is on most situations. It's a different kind of sensitivity and I can't think of any other shoes I've tried that come close. My only minor criticism is that the toe patch is a little small and could do with some texture, and the heel is not the best I've used (though it's not bad either!). I'd also prefer a velcro strap. Fortunately La Sportiva agree and are releasing the mandala next year which addresses all of these points, so perhaps I'll have a new go to shoe!
In terms of sizing, I'm a 45-46 street shoe and wear these in a 42 for a reasonably tight fit
