The Edelrid Starling Protect Pro Dry 8.2mm x 60m is a robust half climbing rope, with cut resistant technology and excellent handling properties.
Ropes are often exposed to sharp edges, therefore Edelrid’s Protect Pro Dry ropes are equipped with Protect technology for significantly increased cut resistance, the sheath is reinforced with aramid fibres using a special processing method without affecting the dynamic properties of the rope.
The Protect Pro Dry also features a near impregnable barrier to dirt and water, giving better performance in the field as well as increasing the overall life span of the rope. As with most Edelrid ropes, the Starling is also put through the Thermoshield process which massively improves the handling properties and cannot be washed out, ensuring the rope remains supple throughout its working life.

Now that I've spent two weeks in the Dolomites with these ropes I can confidently say they were an excellent purchase for long mountain routes with big walk-ins where both weight and durability matter. The ropes seem very skinny when you flake them out the first time and feel about as heavy as a 50m half rope despite having 10m more length, but at no point did I worry about them being abraided or cut on rough dolomite limestone - the ropes stood up well over thousands of meters of ascent and multiple long abseils. The ropes handle well compared to other skinny half ropes I've used in the past, with just the right amount of softness to make hitches and knots easy to tie. The only niggle is that like most soft, skinny ropes, they do tangle easily so be mindful of this when preparing to abseil.
