La Sportiva | Brand Profile

Who are they?

La Sportiva was born in 1928 when Narciso Delladio began hand-crafting wooden leather boots for the local lumberjacks and farmers of the Fassa and Fiemme valleys of northern Italy. After the war, the demand for these boots increased obliging Narciso to hire new workers; from here the company branched out into its more familiar territory of mountain footwear. Purveying an array of fine work and leisure products, the reputation and good name of "Calzoleria Sportiva" spread across the borders on a steady march to become one of the world’s leading names in mountain footwear.

Where are La Sportiva products made?

La Sportiva owns and operates its own state-of-the-art factory; this small, 250 person facility is truly an anomaly in today's footwear world - characterised by hyper-competitiveness and extreme pricing pressures, which have lead most modern outdoor footwear companies into outsourcing production. The factory is located in Ziano di Fiemme, a small mountain village in the heart of the Italian Dolomites. Here, the tradition and heritage of handmade footwear lives on in this magical alpine valley, existing in the shadows of jagged limestone peaks and glaciated valleys where alpine masters such as Bonatti and Messner originally plied their craft.

La Sportiva is distributed in more then 70 countries worldwide.

What are La Sportiva known for?

After 90+ years of exclusively manufacturing work, climbing and mountaineering footwear, in 2011 the brand entered in the ski mountaineering and apparel market and now offers a complete selection of technical clothes for running, ski mountaineering and climbing.

The brand has always possessed a strong passion for the environment this is why there is always a consciousness of what kind of impact the factory has on the outdoor world. By using a proactive approach to business La Sportiva can critically check existing processes as well as commit to continued research to develop ways of minimising environmental impacts whilst still creating the best possible product for its consumers.
