The Petzl Shunt is an easy to install rope clamp that you use below a belay device to back up an abseil.
Designed to replace friction knots such as the Prusik, the Shunt provides an additional safety system when descending by backing up the belay device. Positioned below the device, the Shunt locks onto the rope as soon as you release it and follows your descent when you press on it. It works on single and double ropes, and it can also be used to ascend giving you more bang for your buck!
