Carabiners (or Karabiners, Krabs, Crabs, Biners!) are metal oval loops which can be opened on one side by a gate. They come in many forms but there are two main types used in climbing, locking (e.g. screwgate), and non-locking (e.g. wire gates). Locking carabiners have a locking feature which prevents the gate opening accidentally, and these are typically used in climbing when belaying or at anchor points. Non locking carabiners are often used in quickdraws or as runners on a route, and can also be used to rack gear.
There are different variations of locking and non-locking carabiners. Locking types include the HMS, D shape and oval shape carabiner and these can either have a screw lock or twist lock feature. Non-locking carabiners are either solid gate, bent gate or wire gate.
We stock a wide range of climbing carabiners from leading brands such as Black Diamond, DMM and Petzl, that can be used both indoors and outdoors for sport, traditional, ice and alpine climbing and mountaineering.
