La Sportiva Aequilibrium ST GTX

Colour: Black/Yellow
Black/Yellow
Size: EU 41

The La Sportiva Aequilibrium ST GTX is a lightweight synthetic mountain boot, compatible with semi automatic crampons. It has been designed for alpine walking, trekking, glacier crossings and other mixed terrain, plus scrambling and via ferrata.

One of the defining features of the Aequilibrium is the Double Heel™ combined with the existing La Sportiva Impact Brake System. The Impact Brake System is very common amongst La Sportiva footwear. To summarise the sole has specific shaped angular lugs that have extra surface area to act as a brake whilst ascending or descending, whilst retaining plenty of rubber for impact protection. The Double Heel™ is added to this setup to provide even more braking than normal when walking downhill, plus the back lug is angled to provide a rolling motion when stepping down heel first.

The boot feels great when put on. Your ankles feel very well supported and cushioned. Combined with the 3D Flex System Evo™ directional joint you still have plenty of movement in the ankle area whilst retaining all the support which ultimately gives great confidence with the control and support offered. Also of note is what feels like a more open and softer stretch area high up on the back of the boot to give more give when walking and less pressure on the back of your ankle and achilles.

The construction of the boot is from lightweight, yet still durable materials, particularly the TPU shell around the toe and heel to protect against the sharp rocks and the like.

Overall the La Sportiva Aequilibrium ST GTX is a very impressive boot that is comfortable to wear with some great new technology that reduces muscle fatigue and provides great comfort and support.

    So good I bought a 2nd pair

incredible to hike in. Don’t feel like my feet overheat. Sturdy, good for approaches. I’ve bought a few other notable brands at this price point and they don’t compare sorry to say

    Superb - but size up!

I have found that the Aequilibrium ST's have come up a little small, additionally, these are low volume boots. I take a size 48 so there was no option for me to size up. I am only able to wear medium thickness socks with these boots - no chance of thicker socks or liners (I will wear heated socks in winter, as needed). Also, I am not able to swap out the standard footbed with Superfeet insoles (or similar) as the extra volume becomes a problem. However, the boots are keepers as they are otherwise superb - for such lightweight boots, comfort under foot is amazingly plush (I have early onset osteoarthritis in my feet, so this is a key feature for me). Finally, the heal brake is a game changer, all boots need this feature.

    Not worn with crampons yet

Great prompt service from RandR. Went half EU size bigger than normal shoe size - I have med - wide feet and feel perfect although have added a Surefeet Trailblazer insole to prevent toe banging. Not worn in snow / ice yet so reserving 5 star review but have fitted to Petzl Vasak and seem a good match. Not as slipper like compared to Scarpa Phantom Tech but half the price and with time will wear in.

    Pretty good so far

Had Trango Tower for over 10 years, eventually the sole separated at the heel and wanted to replace them with something less rigid. They really fit the bill on that front, very comfortable, still stiffer than most approach type boots. Very warm too…no,issues so far 2 months in
