Black Diamond Ultralight Ice Screws

Size: 13cm

The Black Diamond Ultralight Ice Screws are super lightweight ice screw designed for ski mountaineering, glacial travel and high-end alpinism.

Weighing in at 45% lighter than the Express Screws, the Black Diamond Ultralight Ice Screw is quick to bite and easy to crank in. The lightest ice screw in the world combines a steel tip with an aluminium body, and a forged aluminium hanger that features two clip-in points. The foldable speed-drive knob is colour-coded for quick length identification and offers uninterrupted 360-degree motion. The new Aluminium hangers are lighter than previous models and rack fantastically when put on an ice clipper. The Ultralight is built in four lengths to accommodate a variety of ice conditions.

The only trade off with saving 45% of the weight over the Express screws is that the material is less durable than the steel version and the threads will dent easier.  As a result these screws are designed for those ski mountaineering, glacial travel and high-end alpinism days where weight needs to be at a minimum.

Save the strain

I have a full set of the BD Expresses that I use for waterfall climbing, and have been dragging one of those around splitboard touring as part of my essential safety kit. Got this as part of my ongoing project to minimise the weight of my touring set up and it lives up to expectations. Lightest screw available and half the weight of the one I was carrying 👌👍.
