The Boreal Alpha VC is a superb value for money and very comfortable starter climbing shoe.
Ideal for beginner climbers or as a comfortable and inexpensive second pair, the Alpha features the same super-comfortable semi-asymmetric last as the top-selling Joker model. A low tension rand means there is less unwanted pressure on the foot and the shoe retains shape over time. The unlined microfibre upper feels comfortable next to the skin straight from the box.
A medium stiffness midsole paired with the sticky and durable Zenith Quattro rubber provides the ideal blend of edging support and long-lasting friction. By streamlining the key features, the Alpha provides a durable, comfortable and great value climbing shoe for any newcomers to the sport.
Cushioned Heel System
In order to improve comfort when stepping off the rock or walking between routes, Boreal developed the Cushioned Heel System (CHS). Using shock absorbing EVA under the heel, the foot is cushioned from rocky and hard ground.
Integrated Rand System
The IRS system means that there is a one piece climbing sole that never deforms and has a superior fit. Different thicknesses in the rubber can be achieved and the one-piece construction increases durability.

Great beginner shoe, I’ve been bouldering for two months now and they have served me well. I’m going to upgrade to a more aggressive shoe soon as these are on the flatter side but good for beginners for sure.
Bit too soon to tell really. Wanted a more comfortable shoe and was prepared to accept lower performance. They seem to provide the former, but unexpectedly because lower end shoes tension the foot less they seem to require greater strength in the foot and lower leg. They do conform with the spec however and will probably wear in.
My boyfriend wanted to join me rock climbing so instead of teaching him with hired kit I decided to treat him to a reasonably priced pair of shoes and these were great! He got on with them immediately and although I ordered the same shoe size as his normal fit, they have been tight enough to serve him well
