The La Sportiva Katana is a versatile, velcro climbing shoe that balances sensitivity, precision and structure, making it ideal for intermediate climbers.

What makes the Katana a true all-rounder is the moderately technical shape. Whilst the shape may still be off-putting for new climbers, there is a good chance that intermediate climbers who are used to rock boots, will be able to wear the Katanas for extended lengths of time. The slight downturn, reasonable stiffness and great edging capability mean the Katana are great for everything except the steepest of terrain.

In regard to fit, the combination of leather and synthetic materials make for a comfortable shoe and with opposed closure straps, a great snug fit can easily be achieved. It should be pointed out that the Katana is fairly narrow around the ball of the foot and tends to suit climbers with narrower feet better than those with wide feet. As with most La Sportiva climbing shoes sizing needs to be researched, check out our sizing guide at the end of this product description.

For those interested in some technical details, it is the prehensile area in the midsole that provides the slight downturned shape and gives stability to the shoe. The Vibram XS Edge sole is one of the compounds used by La Sportiva on their climbing shoe soles, this XS Edge is best on edges as the name suggests, as it reduces deformation when standing on small edges, plus it has the bonus of being quite durable.

The Katana are well established in the La Sportiva Climbing Shoe range and are a recommended choice for intermediate climbers, looking for a comfortable and versatile velcro all-rounder, suitable for everything from multi-pitch trad climbing, to everything but the steepest and hardest of boulder problems.

Great all rounder

Been wearing these for years and must have had at least 8 pairs. Perfect fit, like they have been specially made for me. Not the most technical shoe - not the best for heel hooks - but they’re great on most things, especially thin edges. Have other shoes but I always come back to these. Go to shoe for most climbing.

Excellent Trad Shoes

Had these once before about 10 years ago and really liked them then. New version doesn’t disappoint - excellent shoe for long trad routes. Will buy again!

Alles in Ordnung!

Der Schuh kam zügig und hat eine gute Qualität, ist aber einen Tick größer als sein Vorgängermodel. Aber dafür kann ja rockrun nichts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
