The Unparallel Up Lace is a performance climbing shoe, with a precision fit, a good edge and lots of rubber: ideal for face climbing, crack climbs and multi-pitching.
Unlike anything you've tried before, the Unparallel Up Lace is a uniquely put together climbing shoe, with perhaps the best comparison saying it is something of mix between the La Sportiva Miura and Five Ten Anasazi Pink. The speed-lacing system allows you to dial in the perfect fit whilst also giving you the option to quickly ditch the shoes when your feet need a rest on that tenth pitch. Ribbed laces improve hold and minimise the risk the shoes coming undone. The UP Lace comes with generous amounts of protective randing rubber, making it perfect for crack climbing - adding overall friction and foot protection.
On the base of the shoe is a full length Unparallel RH (Real Honour) rubber sole, which competes blow for blow with the best rubbers in the business. This is the harder of Unparallel's two climbing compounds, and is better suited to edging than the RH formula. This means, whilst offering precision grip on small protrusions, it is a little less sticky overall. On the upside it does last longer than its RS counterpart. The midsole is reasonably stiff, making the UP Lace a good option on long vertical climbs, where maximum support is required.

Who are Unparallel Shoes?
Whilst you mightn't have heard of Unparallel shoes, they are far from new to the climbing shoe game. Based out of their Redlands factory in Fullerton, California, Unparallel rose from the ashes of Five Ten's US manufacturing headquarters, all of which relocated to China as part of the brand's assimilation into the Adidas family. Run by longterm Five Ten development and manufacturing associate Sang Lee, along with members of the original design team (who brought you many of Five Ten's most iconic models), Unparallel continues to go from strength to strength in both the rock climbing and mountain biking shoe categories.
The Rubber
Unparallel use rubbers based on the original Stealth compounds, all of which are sourced from the same factory which has long produced Five Ten's iconic rubber.

I’m 6ft 3” and weigh 111kg street size 10 feet, narrowing medium volume straight foot. Old Anasazi blanco, verde and rebooted pink I took a 9.5. I like a stiff shoe, with my weight the feel flexible (apart from the blanco which I loved, not the rebooted version). Ever since the adidas take over I find the five tens shape different and the sizing has gone west. They also feel very different. I wanted something like the old brand. I stumbled across these and after some digging thought they would be good, as they are pretty much the five ten team that adidas left behind. The team at rock run suggested a size 9, I thought I would try a 9.5. I should have listened to the experts. The 9 is the same fit I had in the pink and verde’s. A little less aggressive at the heal than the blancos. This means my foot sits in the shoe better. They climb well on small holds indoors (only got them today). Can’t wait to get some proper climbing in outside. For me the stiffness sits between a pink and a blanco. Not overly stiff, so I can feel what’s going on. Overall a great shoe.
