Not a terrible rope but not the best either. Main complaint is the handling. It takes a while to recover after being loaded which makes it ***** and run badly through a belay device. Feels strong and durable though so I’d expect it to last well. On the whole I’d say 3 stars.
I said that after buying my first Edelweiss rope, I'd never buy another. The first one I had went stiff and ***** in less than a couple of sessions. And I'm not one for falling and dealing loads of abuse. If I fall, its usually for a good reason. Saw this on sale and thought "why not, I must have just been unlucky with the first one". So it arrived. I carefully uncoiled it, flaked it around a bit and made sure it was all straight before taking it to the local walls. After the first couple of lower off the kinks started appearing. You look up and just see this brand new rope with 0 falls hanging from the anchor and it's kinked and crooked. It's just got worse and worse ever since. Not sure if it's me and how I use my ropes, but never had this issue with Beal or Mammut ropes. Wouldn't recommend this brand on my experience.
I bought this as a cheap workhorse rope for top roping on sandstone. I’ve found it decent for that. I’ve also used it at some short sport crags. I have nicer handling ropes, but this is okay. A bit stiff, rough on the hand and still prone to coiling. The real question is its durability, but it’s too early to say.
