The Evolv Shaman LV climbing shoe is built on the founding principles of the regular Shaman and still hosts the same basic design developed by Chris Sharma. However, Evolv have utilised feedback and input from top female climbers such as Daila Ojeda, Lisa Rands, Steph Davies and Ashima Shiraishi to create a lower volume variant which is ideal for female climbers or those with narrower feet.
The Evolv Shaman LV is a premium performance low volume or womens climbing shoe which, through its proven performance, stylish looks and robust construction, has rapidly become a modern classic.
Originally designed ground up by Chris Sharma, the Shaman's design brief centred upon formulating a top-end climbing shoe which could operate at high grades and on a range of angles and terrain, whilst still providing a relatively comfortable fit.
Through a combination of nifty innovations, a custom last and some stalwart features, Sharma and Evolv have done a fine job of realising their original premiss. Perhaps the single most interesting design feature is that of the somewhat unfortunately named 'Love Bump'; which draws up a small portion of the midsole below the toes, creating a raised area which both eliminates dead space and allows the wearer to more effectively claw or grab on steep ground, without the need for a highly aggressive curving last.
Other notable design specifics include opposing triple Velcro straps (which give a brilliant level of adjustability), the now near ubiquitous rubber toe-hooking patch and Evolv's Variable Thickness Randing (VTR), which utilises tapering and thickening throughout the randing to give durability and sensitivity where most specifically required. If fitted correctly and compatible with your feet, the Shaman also offers reasonable levels of rigidity and thus is pretty adept on the vertical plane.
All in all the Evolv Shaman is a superb and versatile rock shoe, which on the right feet will prove proficient across the disciplines.
Sizing: As with other more recent top-end Evolv models we would generally recommend going no lower than your street shoe size.
