The Scarpa Instinct VS is a technical, performance climbing shoe aimed at high level trad climbers, boulderers and sport climbers.

By combining the best features of the Instinct Slipper and Lace shoes with some refinements, tweaks and improvements, the Scarpa Instinct VS is a serious contender as one of the best high-end performance climbing shoes available. As with the slipper version, the Instinct VS is entirely constructed from synthetic fabric. However, the more substantial (strapped) upper, stiff midsole and high coverage of rubber means the Scarpa Instinct VS does hold its size and shape considerably better than either of its namesakes.

In terms of rigidity the VS is certainly more akin to a lace up, so those who prefer soft shoes may prefer the Stix or Booster S. One big improvement lies in the full coverage heel cup - no more heel slips when torquing in horizontal breaks! Another useful tweak comes by way of the more substantial rubber patch on the toe-box, which is both more effective and durable than that featured on the other two Instinct models.

Overall, a solid performer packing an aggressive asymmetric last, providing a powerful forefoot, well fitting heel and robust construction.

Sizing
As with all the modern performance Scarpa's, the Instinct VS provides reliably similar sizing - i.e. if you are a 42 in the Vapour Lace, Instinct Lace/Slipper, Boostic etc. you should be a 42 in this shoe.

        Comfortable aggressive shoe

This is a really great shoe if you like climbing steep overhanging terrain. The toe hooks into anything and the reinforced rubber on the front of the shoe makes toe hooking very comfortable. The heel is also reinforced allowing for a really strong and secure heel hook. The shoe is not as at home on slab, however I have not seen a significant downgrade in my ability to use the shoes on these routes, rather you just have to learn how climb them in this shoe. It performs just fine. Finally they are actually surprisingly comfortable. For such an aggressive shoe I expected to be tearing them off my feet after a few climbs. However, I have no need to take them off and go several hours at a time without removing them. If you enjoy steep overhanging terrain in the gym or outside along with some moderate slab work these are the shoes for you.

        Great shoe, love the fit

Great shoe, love the fit & feels very sensitive (although I'm 6'2" & 80 kg, lighter climbers may find it a bit less so). One negative is longevity of rubber ain't great
