The Scarpa Instinct VS is a technical, performance climbing shoe aimed at high level trad climbers, boulderers and sport climbers.
By combining the best features of the Instinct Slipper and Lace shoes with some refinements, tweaks and improvements, the Scarpa Instinct VS is a serious contender as one of the best high-end performance climbing shoes available. As with the slipper version, the Instinct VS is entirely constructed from synthetic fabric. However, the more substantial (strapped) upper, stiff midsole and high coverage of rubber means the Scarpa Instinct VS does hold its size and shape considerably better than either of its namesakes.
Sizing As with all the modern performance Scarpa's, the Instinct VS provides reliably similar sizing - i.e. if you are a 42 in the Vapour Lace, Instinct Lace/Slipper, Boostic etc. you should be a 42 in this shoe.

I made the mistake of going down 1 size with these. I used the chart from R&R and my feet came out as 45.5 with the recommendation that with this shoe you could go down 0.5 sizes that gave me the option of a 45 which was available (I'm normally a 46). Way too small, but as I live in Spain and shipping them back was going to be a pain I was hoping that they would stretch a bit, not happened yet but I can only wear them for 5-10 min at a time. I would recommend no more than 0.5 down on your street shoe size. Other than the pain, the shoe is V nice.
Good all rounder which performs well in both sport climbing and bouldering. A bit flat and stiff for smearing and some steeper types of climbing, but great on small edges, and comfortable enough to wear for a day out of multi pitching. My biggest gripe with the shoe would be the heel which I feel can slide around a bit, but otherwise very happy with the fit. I wear a street size 11 (uk mens) and size down to a 9, but I prefer to have my shoes fitted tightly so I think anywhere between 1.5 to 2 sizes down from street size is good. A perfect intermediate shoe for someone who is looking for something which has both durability and sensitivity.
