The Scarpa Mescalito GTX is designed for technical hikes into remote objectives, and features a rugged, reinforced construction and innovative Vibram LiteBase Technology high-friction outsole for the ultimate combination durability and lightweight performance. This GTX version makes for increased comfort when the terrain becomes significantly wetter and boggier.
The Mescalitio GTX is built around the Vibram Dynamis sole unit using Lite Base technology, which significantly reduces the weight of the shoe. This is combined with a bi-density EVA midsole which gives great cushioning, especially compared to more traditional approach shoes. The outsole is Vibram Megagrip for maximum grip and traction on smooth surfaces.
The upper of the Mescalito is constructed from a thermo-embossed suede, with a GORE-TEX (Extended Comfort Footwear) waterproof and breathable membrane, which gives a very individual fit without stretch and protection against the elements. A new lightweight, lateral PU rand shields the shoe from scuffs and scrapes, and a rubber toe cap offers grip as well as protection. The lace to toe design combined with the stretch fit tongue ensure the best possible foot hold.

Thought about buying these for a long time and I’m not disappointed. I have a couple of pairs of Scarpa shoes so was confident about the size although I know R&R are very good about sending out alternative sizes. These are far more substantial than the Crux shoes I have had previously but I have found them very supportive and comfortable. Definitely recommend the shoes and buying from R&R.
As ever with outdoor gear you get what you pay for. These are quite expensive but they are really comfortable straight out of the box, well built, and seem to be wearing well. I wanted a stiff soled, waterproof approach shoe and these have delivered. When these wear out I will likely buy the same again.
