The Wild Country Offset Zero give the climber another protection option when encountering small awkward placements, with their different sized lobes to provide more options, particularly in small flared pockets and cracks.
Offset cams are a strange one, you do not often see that many about but they are genuinely really useful and you will find that climbers who have used them are big fans. Other than the different head sizes, as the name suggest, they follow the same design as the updated Zero cams, so we can refer to the same product information below.
In spite of the fact the sizing does not go down quite as small as it did on the original Zeros (although the tiniest originals were only rated for aid climbing), they still go down pretty small and are all fully rated. The four larger sizes have very compact heads as the springs are cleverly recessed. Doubled dyneema loops can be clipped short or extended for more range.
These updated Zeros feature a slightly adapted version of the definitive 17.6° constant camming angle making them smooth, light and versatile in use. This single axle cam has one of the best expansion ranges going, it comes in six sizes, all with extendable slings and individual colours which makes for easier for faster selection. The cam lobes are hot-forged and are made out of a softer than average aluminium alloy with a unique design to ensure maximum rated strength values, minimum weight and reduced walking for increased confidence when leading.
The soft aluminium lobes provide better friction at the expense of a little durability. The Zero Friend covers cracks from 8.04 to 41.1mm. The very flexible stainless steel stem is encased by a spring which protects the stem as it bend over the edge of the rock when the cam is placed. The three larger sizes perfectly match up with the three smallest Wild Country Friend sizes so shouldn't cause any confusion. These tiny micro cams open up lots of new protection options, and give a little added insurance on routes that would normally have sparse protection.
The colour coding used is coincidentally identical to that used by Black Diamond on their cams.
