This week’s video comes straight from the North Face of the Eiger where climbing’s ultimate power couple, Babsi Zangerl and Jacopo Larcher strive to climb the Eigerwand’s hardest route, Odyssee (8a+/5.13c, 1,400 meters), inside a day. Having claimed the second free ascent of the route over four treacherous days of turbulent weather in 2018, the pair return with an arsenal of experience and a new vision for the mountain’s greatest test piece. An ascent of the iconic Eiger is a dream for any skilled alpinist with this video being the perfect testimony to its striking beauty and ultimate challenge.
Jacopo and Babsi have amassed quite the tick list over the last few years with their most notable ascents together coming on the grand walls of Yosemite, making free ascents of notable routes like Zodiac, Magic Mushroom and the third female free ascent of El Capitan’s famous Nose. With many of the pair’s big wall ascents being made over the course of a few days, this new venture into the realm of speed climbing defines the pair as the most multi-faceted and skilled elite climbing partnership we have ever seen.
